Name: naptam
Canon: our torsos align (torso no bokura)
Canon Point: pre-story
Age: young adult, from 20s to 30s in human years!
History/Personality: our torsos align by ryo sumiyoshi is a collection of one shots/short stories focusing on the various relationships between humans and monsters. naptam's story starts with a girl named hanna, who deals with a cheating fallout by going on a hunting trip in the amazon rainforest. when her boat gets struck by lightning and she gets injured, naptam saves her from drowning in the river and takes her to his home in a canopy nest. a language barrier and cultural differences in gestures leads naptam to believe that hanna wants to form a romantic pair with him. young, lonely and emotional, naptam falls in love with a human girl he barely knows and is determined to take her as his wife. personality wise, he is:
Sentimental: Naptam is shown to easily cry whether it is happiness that brings him to it, fluster, anger, or a gesture seen through beautiful lenses that emotionally moves him, such as, for example, when Hanna begins to innocently whistle back the tune he was singing to her during the time spent together after Naptam had decided to consider her his love— we later learn that the song speaks of loving someone no matter what happens, and just listening to her sing it back to him both greatly flusters and moves him, despite it not being her first intention. He's also a useless romantic, making him prone to easily express his affection and feelings when he so much wants to— After deciding on what he feels for Hanna, Naptam does everything to express it from being not just overly touchy with her, but mildly clingy (as a negative side to this trait), attentive to her needs and openly initiating cuddles (that she rejects at first, after discovering it was romantic in gesture).
Sincere: His emotions are shown quite clearly on the surface and he is not all that bothered when expressing them (he's also a bird, so there's no hiding his ruffling and such). Body language plays a huge role in his culture to bring these messages across relationships, so it's something that comes rather naturally. He openly argues with the Chief Bird of his kind when the source of his feelings are challenged immediately after his arrival, the first time we see him actually angry about something and not thinking twice about expressing it in front of Hanna or the other birds. Another instance was when, after flying after Hanna when she was dropped into the forest, shrieking about how upset he was about the situation of Chief Bird taking her away from Naptam and when Hanna rejected him (explicitly with “I hate you”). Naptam cries tears of frustration as he wrangles with a giant snake about to eat Hanna, and while he’d internalized the hurt briefly to put Hanna’s decision (and happiness) before his, he opened up easily enough when she asked him why he was doing everything for her sake. He later cries even more when Hanna confesses, confessing his own earlier sadness at being unrequited even when he did still want to do everything to make her happy. This leads right into his dedication—
Dedicated: Any duty he gives himself, Naptam sticks to it and sticks to it rigorously. This happens during most, if not all his story, starting with saving Hanna from drowning in a river after her boat was struck by lightning, and stretches out to tending to her injuries with medicinal plants and bringing her food, all before his decision to love her. He has grown around beings that board things through with their loved ones even when emotions come unrequited and accepts this as his reality; when he decides he loves someone, he wants their best regardless of what they think in return. Happiness of the other side comes first, turning Naptam into a fairly selfless monster. Afterwards, when that decision is made and not only continues caring for her, he vows to bring her home to a place she can be happy in when rejecting his feelings. He later flies straight into rainforest canopy in the middle of the night when his vision is at its worst to save Hanna from a run-in with a snake, after every hurtful word she could’ve spewed to lengthen the gap between them, or, at least try to. He viciously defends her even while blinded by the dark, comes out injured and scarred, and still wearily tells her, once he’s killed the snake: I’ll take you somewhere you’ll be happy.
Would you consider your character to be heroic? Why or why not?: In way, I'd say he is! Naptam has a warm heart; enough that he helps most things in his path that need it. He charges into grave danger to keep those dear to him safe, and he gives it his all until the threat is dealt with. He would never consider himself heroic, but simply has this innate desire to do good. He's quite lonely, which may be a source for his constantly outstretched hands, but it first and foremost comes from a kind nature.
Powers/Abilities: naptam only comes with the abilities you would expect from a giant bird: flight. he's also based on a predatory bird, so he has a beak and talons ripe for cutting meat!
Inventory: actually nothing, he's a birdman.
Coterie: rng!
Samples: tdm (noctium) & network post (noctium)

ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: my timezone is utc-3, i usually do tags early morning and late evening! on weekdays i can be around during the afternoon depending on my workload. if contact is needed, plurk pings or discord is probably the way to go since i have phone notifications on and get them immediately. i try my best to get to tags within a day, at maximum three. longer than that occasionally happens because of rl, but i do get to it as soon as i can!
BRACKETS/PROSE: i default to brackets.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: nothing really comes to mind.

IN CHARACTER
PHYSICAL AFFECTION: go ahead! naptam’s rather affectionate himself— note that touching the feathers of his face or beak is an immediate courtship gesture, so he might get the wrong idea if your character gets curious.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: let me know beforehand, since fight threads usually need some direction, but other than that i’m generally down for harm!
RELATIONSHIPS: yes! m/f and m/m alike. m/f is more naptam’s lean but proper building can lead to m/m on my watch. the harpies in his story are implied to be monogamous, plus naptam thinks he’s in a budding relationship with a human girl that might potentially slow things down on the side of romance, but it’s nothing that can’t be navigated very soon! i’m open to multishipping, smut without development will need aphros to push, that or characters openly soliciting him by feather/beak touch. depending on where he is emotionally, he may accept, but please keep in mind that this will mean that naptam will most likely become emotionally attached due to his personality and culture!
PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: nothing important! just bird brain.
MAGICAL INFORMATION: none, originally; naptam is an amethyst so he now has air manipulation.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: none.

OUT OF CHARACTER
BACKTAGGING: now and forever. i'm primarily a mobile tagger so i'm not exactly the fastest! i'll always try my best to keep a thread going until we've either finished our plans and bring things to an organic close or we come to a handwaved conclusion, so taking months isn't a problem for me. if i haven’t responded to a thread and we’re in the middle of something and i haven’t contacted you for emergency closure, i more than likely missed the notif by accident— so please feel free to send me a message about it! i’ll greatly appreciate it!
THREADHOPPING: for action threads, i’d prefer a heads up. network threads are a free for all!
FOURTHWALLING: sure.
NOT INTERESTED IN: i don’t have anything immediately in mind so if you’re unsure about something, just ask! i’m usually open to many things.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL: naptam is an eight to eight-five feet tall harpy with six limbs (two arms, two wings and two legs), roughly based on a goshawk with blue and white plumage. i have plenty of references from the artist on his info page!
AURAL: clicks, chirps, beeps, shrieks and squawks. flutters, beats, wooshes. naptam’s native tongue (birdspeak) may be optionally understood, which i will usually leave in brackets. if you opt in for language barrier hilarity, his english is heavily accented and broken which will sometimes lead to bad-translation, both vocally or through text, but he’ll be super open to learning more!
OLFACTORY: feather dust.
DEMEANOUR: gentle, upright, open-hearted, sentimental, kind, easily flustered; a lot of avian behavior and tics in his posture.
